Markapur Municipality, with population of about 71 thousand is Markapur sub district's only municipality located in Markapur sub district of Prakasam district in the state Andhra Pradesh in India. Total geographical area of Markapur municipality is 23 km2. Population density of the city is 3111 persons per km2. There are 11 wards in the city, among them Markapur Ward No 01 is the most populous ward with population of about 25 thousand and Markapur Ward No 11 is the least populous ward with population of 654.

Nearest railway station is Markapur Road which is 5 km far from here. Markapur is the sub district head quarter of the city. District head quarter of the city is Ongole which is 94 km away. Hyderabad is the state head quarter of the city and is 289 km far from here. Yearly average rainfall of the city is 687 mm. Maximum temperature here reaches up to 40°C and minimum temperature goes down to 19.7°C.

The city is home to about 71 thousand people, among them about 36 thousand (50%) are male and about 35 thousand (50%) are female. 85% of the whole population are from general caste, 13% are from schedule caste and 3% are schedule tribes.
